We ask for certain Personally Identifiable Informaiton (name, email address, date of birth, address, and other information) if you choose to register an account with MemoryLeaf. We strongly recommend that children under the age of 13 ask their parents permission before providing any information about themselves and encourage parents to take an active role in their child's safe internet use.
If you create a memorial page for a deceased individual, we will ask for personal information (name, date of birth, date of death, and other information) about the deceased individual. This information will also be collected by our partner funeral homes or funeral professionals if the memorial page was created by them on your behalf.
We track certain actions that you perform on the website such as sharing a story or uploading a photo. We also collect information (such as your IP address, browser version, websites visited, etc) to help us find potential problems. We often aggregate this information anonymously to help understand usage trends. We occasionally use this browsing behaviour information with your name so that we can identify problems with usage.
We use 3rd party hosted analytics solutions (google analytics and mixpanel metrics) which in turn track various pieces of information (IP address, clicks, pages visited, etc).
Your name will be publicly shown along side any memory (story, photo, etc) that you share on a memorial page. Your name and email will be included in any private condolence that you send to the family of the deceased. This information will remain on the memorial page until the administrator or owner removes it.
We will explicitly communicate with you via email regarding account issues or other issues requiring your attention. We will also automatically send you emails with information that you have opted to receive (notification of activity on a memorial page, private condolences). Private condolences are sent strictly to the family of the deceased and those that they elect to also receive such messages. You may opt out of email communication by changing your settings or by contacting the funeral home or funeral professional that set up your memorial page.
We use personal information and anonymous information to measure and improve our website and it's features and to provide customer support.
Your name is shared with the family or owner of the memorial page whenever you share a memory. We will share your information to third parties when we believe we have your permission to do so, it is reasonably necessary in order to operate or provide our features, or when we are compelled under a legal obligation.
Your publicly shared memories (stories, photos, etc) are shared with search engines to help other users find memorial pages and memories.
Your information may be made available to our service providers to ensure the operation of our website. In these situations, the service providers will provide reasonable protection of this information.
In the event of a sale or change of ownership, MemoryLeaf may transfer your information to the new owner.
We have implemented commercially reasonable technical and organizational measures to secure your personal information from loss and unauthorized access. However, we can not guarantee that third parties will never defeat these measures. Therefore, you should provide your information at your own risk.
